Joanna Robbins, MA

Joanna graduated from Florida State University in August 2006 with a BS in Psychology. While attending FSU she was a research assistant in the Baumiester/Tice Social Psychology lab, conducting research that focused on mental exhaustion and self-control depletion. After graduation she left the Sunshine state to pursue graduate degree in Clinical Psychology. In September 2006 she enrolled in the Doctoral (PsyD) program at Argosy University- Chicago. Then after two years, she switched gears and entered the master’s program.  Joanna was the Counseling Intern at The Lighthouse during the 2009-2010 academic year and completed her MA in June 2010.

Joanna now joins the staff at the Lighthouse Emotional Wellness Center as a counselor interested in working with the adult populations diagnosed with mood and personality disorders.  Joanna’s other clinical interests include working with pre-teens and teenagers with academic or home life problems and populations with weight, health and fitness, or self esteem issues. Her approach to therapy is eclectic and integrative, with a pull towards uncovering unconscious processes. Additionally, she is trained in hypnotherapy and meditation and will include those tools in therapy.

Her interest in Health Psychology and holistic mind-body approaches arose from her own personal care approaches. She employs Reiki, Reflexology, Meditation and exercise in her own mental and physical healthcare.
